Rarely do I see energy in playing like I did at this gig with Antonio Hart at the Baltimore Museum of Art. I didn't know that he was from Baltimore and attended the Baltimore School of the Arts. He blew hard and consistent with David Berkman on piano running the gauntlet between a great rhythm section. It was fun to see all Antonio’s friends gather around him at the break and as he acknowledged the kids from BSA; “Study hard, listen to your teachers and you will be up here one day”. Nice!
At the end of the show he related a story that James Moody, who is a great friend and mentor of his, was very ill from pancreatic cancer. He praised all the old jazz cats “not only as just great jazz musicians but also as amazing people”.
With Lonnie Plaxico on Bass, Lee Pearson on Drums and Renato Thoms on Percussion
Not from the concert but gives you an taste of his playing.
And a little David Berkman
