Mona Lisa Gives More Than Just An Enigmatic Stare: Historians Discover Numbers And Letters In Her Eye
This is somewhat interesting but the comments are the best...
"Paint by numbers."
"It's his lunch order from the Chinese restaurant down the street."
"I have deciphered the code! It says "Made in China"...case closed"
"The numbers are for the cell phone of the Charlie Chaplin time traveller."
This is somewhat interesting but read the comments. Those are real art...funny.

Antonio Hart with David Berkman in Baltimore
Rarely do I see energy in playing like I did at this gig with Antonio Hart at the Baltimore Museum of Art. I didn't know that he was from Baltimore and attended the Baltimore School of the Arts. He blew hard and consistent with David Berkman on piano running the gauntlet between a great rhythm section. It was fun to see all Antonio’s friends gather around him at the break and as he acknowledged the kids from BSA; “Study hard, listen to your teachers and you will be up here one day”. Nice!
At the end of the show he related a story that James Moody, who is a great friend and mentor of his, was very ill from pancreatic cancer. He praised all the old jazz cats “not only as just great jazz musicians but also as amazing people”.
With Lonnie Plaxico on Bass, Lee Pearson on Drums and Renato Thoms on Percussion
Not from the concert but gives you an taste of his playing.
And a little David Berkman

Walters Art Museum
Went to Baltimore to hear some jazz and eat some oysters. Dropped into the Walters and remembered how much I like small art museums in small cities.
The interior views are nice....
And the galleries light, airy and quiet....ie, few people....
The art is not great but fun because this is a guy's personal collection and thought how cool it would be to buy this stuff and be able to run your hands over them...
For good photos of the collection, go here

Al Jarreau and the Airmen of Note
Great concert by Al Jarreau. I listened to his stuff for years so was thrilled to see a free concert with him backed by the Airmen of Note. This was very fortunate in that on July 23, 2010 Jarreau was critically ill at a hospital in France, while in the area to perform a concert at nearby Barcelonnette, and was being treated for respiratory problems and cardiac arrhythmias. Lesson is to see your heros while you can...
The audio on my camera is terrible, but this gives you an idea of the concert.
Oldie from an album that I owned and wore out from playing it so much. Man we were so broke...
The ultimate feel good song that Al closed the concert with.

Halloween - The Shadow of Your Smile and Dorothy on the 'bone at Dahlak Bar
So I had to get out of the neighborhood to escape the kiddies and my crazy neighbor and decided to listen to some Sunday jazz. I had way too much time on my hands, so I took the long route to a bar that was having a jam session. On the way there, I ran into this...I don't know what this is but it looks very holy. The weird thing was that they are playing "The Shadow of Your Smile."
In any event, I was thinking how much DC is becoming like NYC jazz wise. Though I am never at a loss for a-list players making their way to DC on Fridays and Saturdays, now people are playing jazz everyday of the week in a lot of different venues. Which brought me to this, a session at Dahlak @ 1771 U St. NW. I'm not sure who these musicians are, but am pretty convinced that the trombone player is Dorothy from the looks of her ruby shoes.
